Bringing School Home

Dear friend of Guadalupe,

As a valued friend of our school, we want to share a quick update of what is going on at Guadalupe School.

No student left hungry
Where do you find superheroes? Monday through Friday they are hard at work in Guadalupe School’s kitchen preparing breakfast and lunch and on our buses delivering these meals to our students. Every day, our staff prepare and deliver 375 meals to our students. This level of food security has become increasingly important to our families, and we are delighted to be able to provide these meals for our students.

Teachers are rock stars
Remote learning is especially challenging to pull off in a population with high poverty lacking the technology and internet resources many of us take for granted. Our teachers are working hard to adjust to remote learning. Each week, they are preparing materials to be sent home with our students alongside their meals. We have started lending laptops to our students who have internet access to expand remote learning resources and opportunities for our teachers to connect to our students. Our Early Learning Center and Charter School faculty are making a real effort to stay in touch with our students; encourage reading and review; and to be of support to our very stressed families, many of whom lack substantial formal education to assist in teaching their children and work jobs where staying at home has not been an option.

Adult learning continues
Our Adult Education staff are working hard to stay in touch with students regularly. They have created a digital learning platform to continue critical language learning from home. Students are being encouraged to review previous material and continue their learning online through videos and materials created by our amazing staff.

How you can help
With dramatic downward changes in the fortunes of many foundations, corporations, and individuals, we expect the next many months to be very difficult in fundraising.  It is hard to engage in philanthropy when you don’t know how deep one’s wounds may become.  We understand that. We are looking into every sort of possible new funding to support operations in this economic downturn, including private foundations committed to food security, the SBA, and other government sources at the Federal, state and local level.   Your help, as a crucial part of Guadalupe’s ongoing success, is always welcome.  If you wish to give to Guadalupe now, we would welcome the help.

If you have in-kind donations, we ask that you refrain from bringing them to the school for the time being. Please contact us if there are items you wish to donate. Our greatest need is financial, and donations can be made via the link below or on our website.

Please continue to take care of yourself, those you love, and your fellow citizens.  We greatly appreciate being part of this community.  Guadalupe could not function without friends like you.  Thank you.

With gratitude,

Richard Pater
