During difficult times, hope allows us to imagine a brighter future. Guadalupe School has a student run “Hope Squad.” Students were nominated by their classmates as trustworthy peers and their job is to inspire and support Guadalupe School. Hope Squad is a national program, created to help reduce youth suicide through education, training and peer intervention.

A couple weeks ago, our Hope Squad planned Hope Week, a weeklong school-wide event to promote a safe and positive environment. Guadalupe School’s Hope Squad chose a week of caring inspired by Care Bears, and had an activity planned for each day during the week.

1. Friendship Bear

Friendship is so important, and we want to encourage you all to show kindness and companionship to each other. Please be sure to always include others and invite them to play with you! We took a picture of each class to help them remember the times spent together. Having a close circle of friends can be helpful when you need support or comfort. During distressing or joyful moments—it’s nice to know that you’re never alone. When you care for others, you become a stronger and more compassionate person.

2. Do Your Best Bear

Words have such an impact on others, so encouragement is especially vital since it can contribute to a boost in self-worth and their accomplishments. We wrote inspiring notes to our friends that were displayed all over the school during Hope Week. It feels great to support your friends! Encouragement is a powerful tool that helps unlock your fullest potential, particularly if you are struggling. The path to a more confident self is built by motivation to succeed.

3. Share Bear

Sharing is caring! If you put others first and give, you will eventually receive so much more. By being kind and generous towards one another, you can foster trust and learn about gratitude. We gave all of our students the chance to share with someone else. Each student received a pack of gummy bears and chose another classmate to give it to. Sharing is especially important because it teaches us about compromise and equality. Once you understand the value of compromise, you can learn to let things go, rethink expectations, and be willing to change for the better.

4. Thanks A Lot Bear

Service projects help us stay connected to the community. If you work to fulfill another’s need, you can witness first-hand your ability to truly make a difference in someone’s life. We gave our students a chance to do something nice for another class by cleaning their classroom. Volunteering in ways like this is powerful because it gives you the ability to grow and build a strong sense of self-esteem. Giving to others can help you reduce stress and feel happier.

Thanks for a great Hope Week!
